The year was 2024, and we Metroidvania lovers were spoiled with over 60 titles released! We had the souls-like and Sekiro-inspired Nine Sols, the adorable aesthetic of the twin-stick, bullet-hell Minishoot’ Adventures, the incredible platforming and time-manipulation of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and the award-winning, pixelated phenom that is Animal Well, just to name a few.

Who would have thought that playing a tiny potato-blob-thing with retro-style graphics and sound design would be so much fun, let alone be nominated for Best Independent Game and Best Debut Indie Game?

But the year is 2025. It’s only August, and we’re already looking at a stack of some amazing Metroidvanias. The bar is sky high — and it seems like this year’s holding up just fine. So here are 10 Metroidvania Games to play in 2025 (so far). Let’s dive right in.

Zexion

Get ready for a blast of the nostalgia bomb that is Zexion!

You play as Natu, a space warrior on a desperate mission to track down the mysterious Zexion, and save their home planet, Orinth. But beware! You’re not the only one looking for this power.

Armed with your trusty Force Blaster and Gravity Harness, you’ll explore a vast, interconnected world packed with secrets, upgrades, and big boss battles.

And after beating the game, you unlock a Randomizer mode, shuffling up item locations for extra replay value without breaking playability.

If you have a soft spot for old-school Metroidvanias, this one’s definitely worth checking out.

INAYAH – Life After Gods

Play as Inayah, an orphaned outcast, searching for her lost tribe where brutal clans rule over the ruins of a once high-tech civilization.

Here, you can opt Inayah’s adaptive Gauntlet to transform into Blades, a Flail, or Fists— each with its unique combat and movement styles.

Armed with a variety of character builds and abilities, you get to develop your own playstyle and go up against 20 unique bosses!

Influence the narrative to unlock multiple endings and reveal the fate of Inayah and her world. Will you make the right choice?

Rolling Star

The year is 2301. Laurie, a 21-year-old hikikomori (someone who’s extremely socially withdrawn), was content in her tiny space pod, tinkering with her bionic arms, until aliens launched a full-scale assault on Earth! Goodbye solitude!

Shot down and stranded on the mysterious Colony 102, Laurie must uncover its secrets to find a weapon rumored to be capable of turning the tide of war.

Now, the fate of humanity rests in her cold, metal hands.

Guns of Fury

If Metal Slug and Super Metroid had a baby, it would be Guns of Fury!

Take on the role of special operative Vincent Fury, sent to infiltrate Easton Industries, rescue the brilliant scientist Dr. Klaus, and recover his latest discovery, the Tetra Cell, humanity’s last hope.

Blast through a sprawling facility packed with enemies, secrets, and deadly bosses in this high-energy 16-bit Metroidvania that Michael Bay would probably play in his sleep.

The soundtrack is composed by Dominic Ninmark, the same composer behind Gravity Circuit and Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider.

Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist

In the Land of Fumes, toxic underground gases have driven artificial beings called Homunculi mad, turning them into monsters.

Set decades after the events of the first game, you awaken as Lilac, an Attuner who has the power to purify the Homunculi, and must uncover your lost memories and unite with both humans and Homunculi in a kingdom torn between destruction and rebirth.

And if you loved the soundtrack of Ender Lilies, the original composer of the first game, “Mili”, is back and ready to evoke the same haunting feel.

SteamDolls: Order of Chaos

Action, exploration, stealth, and blood; these paint a picture of the chaotic industrial world of Steamdolls.

Here, you play as The Whisper, a cunning thief and anarchist, tearing through a decaying steampunk city on the brink of collapse.

And if you thought the voice was familiar, you were right as The Whisper is voiced by David Hayter (Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid franchise).

Blend brutal combat with stealth, execute savage finishers, and hack into terminals to uncover the haunting memories of a world torn apart by greed.

As of this writing, the game is still in its Early Access.

Oirbo

In Oirbo, you assemble yourself inside a colossal, hostile spacecraft where nearly everything is out to destroy you— and you don’t know why.

No dialogue, no text— just exploration, combat, and precise platforming.

Navigate a massive ship, gain new skills, and face off against rogue machines and deadly bosses in a word-less sci-fi journey that’s as beautiful as it is dangerous.

Somber Echoes

In Somber Echoes, where Greek tragedy meets science fiction, you play as a resurrected Adrestia from the ruins of the vast Greco-Roman vessel Atromitos, which is now a breeding ground for infested horrors, to stop your twin sister, Harmonia, from unraveling reality.

Use the Aether Lantern, a gravity-defying traversal tool, to master brutal fights and exploration.

With stunning and distinct districts, parry-based combat, and multiple endings, your choices shape the fate of a universe hanging by a thread.

ReSetna

In a world long devoid of organic life, you are the combat android named ReSetna, reactivated to confront the chaos of a mysterious Signal corrupting machines and unraveling reality.

With your drone companion IXA, you must traverse a shattered world, fight your fellow automatons, uncover the secrets of Project Ascendance, and eliminate the Signal’s grip before it consumes everything.

And, perhaps, there may be more to stopping the machine corruption in this post-apocalyptic place.

It’s a fast-paced and hard-hitting combat system, but as you progress, you’ll acquire dodging, parrying, other abilities, and a collection of weapons.

Super Roboy

Step into a post-apocalyptic world that puts you in the boots of a young robot, Roboy, who searches for his lost father in a world overrun by mutants and machines. It’s an emotional story inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy.

The game is beautifully hand-drawn so think Cuphead but reimagined as a futuristic Metroidvania.

Defeat enemies to acquire their skills, use elemental status effects to exploit their weaknesses, and face off against unique hand-drawn bosses.

Moreover, Today’s Games teamed up with Vincent Penning to bundle both ReSetna and Super Roboy, so don’t miss out on this offer!

Which of these games are you most excited to play? Is there another title coming out in 2025 you’re more excited for?
